Educational Requirements

For Client Advisers and Dealers Assistants

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) governs the educational requirements that all Patersons Client Advisers and Dealers Assistants must comply with.

PS146 Compliance

ASIC PS146 requires Licensees to ensure that Licensee Representatives who provide financial advice to retail clients are adequately trained and educated.

To meet PS146, a Representative must have undertaken an individual assessment, conducted by an appropriately qualified assessor, or successfully completed the appropriate course listed on the ASIC Training Register.

Once the Representative has passed the appropriate course and been accredited as PS146 Compliant they must commit to ongoing education consisting of 20 hours of structured learning per annum and 10 hours of unstructured learning per annum.

If you have these qualifications and would like to be considered for the role of a Representative/Client Adviser, please send supporting documentation providing details of the course(s) passed successfully.

The ASIC website has a Training Register which enables you to ascertain which courses meet their PS146 requirements. This site also allows you to download Policy Statement 146 for your perusal.

If you do not hold the appropriate PS146 qualifications the following organisations are just two of many providers that offer courses to obtain these requirements:-

Other Preferred Qualifications

To ensure our staff provide the optimum level of advice and services to our clients, Patersons also prefers that candidates who wish to apply for a Client Adviser / Dealers Assistant position possess formal tertiary qualifications in a Commerce, Finance, Business, Engineering or Geology discipline and may have either completed the Securities Institute Graduate Diploma course or have additional finance-related tertiary qualifications.

Candidates who do not possess the above qualifications but have a proven successful sales ability and experience in building a client base may also be considered.
